Government Model (5-inch barrel)

Important: The Colt Officer's ACP and Defender use a compact grip frame with shorter panels and different screw spacing. Standard 1911 Full Size grips do NOT fit these models. Do not order Full Size panels for an Officer's ACP or Defender.

Grip Screw Spacing on Colt 1911s

A Note on Series 70 vs. Series 80

The Series 70 and Series 80 Colt 1911s use the same grip frame and the same grip panels — the difference between them (the firing pin safety in the Series 80) is internal and has no effect on grip fitment. Both accept the same aftermarket grip panels.

Installation

  1. Unload and clear the pistol.
  2. Remove the two grip screws on each side with a flat-head screwdriver.
  3. Lift the factory panels off the frame.
  4. Set the new wooden panels in place, aligning the screw holes with the frame bushings.
  5. Hand-tighten the screws, then snug firmly. Do not overtighten — wood can crack around the screw holes under excessive torque.
  6. Check that the panels sit flush with no wobble or gap.
